"Elijah went over to him and threw his cloak over him. Elisha… ran after Elijah, and said, ‘… I will follow you.’"(1 K 19: 19-20)

The Order was born towards the end of the twelfth century and early thirteenth century, with a group of Crusaders and pilgrims who came from Europe after giving their lives to the reconquest of the Holy Places, abandoning earthly goods and glories they settle in Mount Carmel, near the spring of Elijah and in his spiritual dependence.

After some years of life, with no official ties, between 1206 and 1214 they ask Albert Patriarch of Jerusalem for a rule of life corresponding to the project they were already living inspired by the Holy Spirit. They choose the Mother of God as Patroness of the Order, taking the name: Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel.

Today, after eight centuries, the same spirit is kept alive in us: on this Earth that the "Lord chose as inheritance," deeply rooted in the biblical and Marian tradition of the Order, relentlessly seeking the face of God.
