“I will bring to my holy mountain and make them joyful in my house of prayer” (Is. 56,7)
The name of our religious family is suggestive of the holy mountain of Carmel, where in the 13th Century, the Brothers of the Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel first settled. In founding the Teresian Carmel (Discalced Carmelites), our Mother Saint Teresa of Jesus (Teresa of Avila) who also belonged to this Order, wanted to return to the contemplative hermit-like spirit of our first fathers.
Our greater family of Carmel consists of priests, nuns, secular Carmelites and a number of other religious communities who share our spirituality.
As Carmelites, our vocation is the call to live in the presence and of the presence of God in the heart of the Church and of the world.
